B-17G 44-8846 "The Pink Lady" - War Configuration

Here is the first previously unpublished illustration of the B-17G 44-8846 ‘Pink Lady’, not in its current configuration but in its wartime configuration between March and May 1945, whilst serving with the 351st Bomb Group, 511th Bomb Squadron in England.
The aircraft was then painted in aluminium, a standard finish towards the end of the war, and fitted with H2X radar in place of the belly turret to serve as a PFF (Pathfinder). The radio compartment was modified accordingly to accommodate the monitor. Intended to mark targets for the rest of the formation, the 8846 flew two raids during its career: the first on 14 April 1945 during the bombing of the Royan pocket, and the second on 16 April for the bombing of the Regensburg railway junction. It also still had its Bendix nose turret, which was removed when it was converted into a photographic reconnaissance aircraft just after the war, for the USAF’s Casey Jones programme (mapping of Europe after 8 May 1945).
Great fun to produce this illustration in just a few hours for the pleasure !!
